Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation
Education Programs Assistant

The Education Programs Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Director of Education of the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation with developing education programs and curriculum. This position is full time temporary (initially one year) with opportunity for extension. This position is based in Maryland.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop marine science curriculum, for secondary school students and teachers, in accordance with the National Science Education Standards, Ocean Literary: Essential Principles and Fundamental Concepts, and Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Create lesson plans that include activities, labs, worksheets, answer keys, interactives and assessments.
  • Assist in managing and posting educational content to website.
  • Assist the Director of Education with ongoing education programs and seek opportunities to create new programs.
  • Ability to take scientific information and rewrite it so that the general public can understand it.
  • Teach a variety of audiences (eg. primary and secondary students, teachers and general public).
  • Liaise with teachers, contractors, and educational partners.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology/Science, or a complementary field. Experience developing and writing curriculum.  At least two years experience in teaching in formal education at the secondary level preferred. Experience teaching marine ecosystems (eg. coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass) is preferred.  Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication is essential. Ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously is required. Candidate must be able to work under tight deadlines and have excellent organizational skills.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
